If you don’t see the question you have on this list, please contact us at info@crystalballroom.ca and we will be happy to help you out.

Do I need a partner?

No, you do not need a partner to start private lessons! We will tailor your lessons to teach you solo or with your partner. It’s common to start learning ballroom dancing as a solo dancer.

What should I expect in the consultation?

The complimentary consultation is an important part of our private lesson booking process. By arranging a time for you to come in, this is the opportunity for us to fully understand your goals and answer any questions you have right off the bat. We then give you a brief lesson to access your dance level and how well you take on instruction. Based on your goal and the brief lesson, we can then pair you with the right instructor and the right package that meets your needs.

Our consultations are also a fun, relaxing way to get to know our instruction style as well. You’ll have a choice of packages to move forward with at the end of the consultation.

You can expect to be in the studio for 30-45 minutes during your consultation.

Do I have to have prior experience to start private lessons?

Not at all. Our instructors coach all levels of dancers, from never having danced before to international champion-level dancers. Whether you’re doing your first ever waltz box step or refining your natural turn, we’re prepared to help you reach your dance goals.

How many lessons do I need?

It depends. During the consultation, we ask you about your goals and we assess your current level. Depending on where you are at, how you take on instructions, and what you wish to acheive, we will tailor a package that suits your needs. We are invested in your dancing and want what’s best for you. Sometimes that might mean 6-10 lessons, such as when getting a choreography for a performance or special event. Sometimes it might mean on-going weekly lessons, such as when preparing to enter into competitve ballroom dancing. The more you can share with us during the consultation, the better we can serve you.

How much are private lessons?

Our private lesson fees can vary depending on your need, the number of lessons recommended, and the instructor. Typically, for those just starting out, you can expect $110+ per session. Full package fees are discussed at our free consultation.

What should I wear to my lesson?

For your first consultation / first few lessons, please feel free to wear comfortable clothing you can move in. Shoes should be suitable for indoor use meaning they are clean with unmarking soles. Please observe the studio etiquette in the About Us page which gives suggestion on attire suitable for ballroom dancing.

After your first few lessons and depending on your dance path, we recommend acquiring specialty ballroom and/or latin shoes. Dance shoes help support your body and make it easier and safer to move across the floor. Your instructor will be able to offer guidance on where to acquire dance shoes and what to look for in your dance gear.
