Frequently Asked Questions

If you don’t see the question you have on this list, please contact us at info@crystalballroom.ca and we will be happy to help you out.

Does my child need a partner?

No, they do not need a partner to start the kids and youth program! There will be chances to dance with a partner in class. It’s common to start learning ballroom dancing as a solo dancer.

Does my child have to have prior experience to start the program?

Not at all. Most of our dancers start with no prior dance experience of any kind.

My child has some prior dance experience. What will they learn in the program?

We love welcoming intermediate to advance dancers to our program.

If they have experience dancing ballroom, you will find that they will fit right in as we teach the curriculum of DanceSport that is the same world-wide.

If they have experience in other genres of dance, they will have some understanding in body movement. However, ballroom dance have elements that are uniquely its own. It’s also a partner dance style. Your child will learn relational skills such as communication, respect, and accountability for others in the group alongside the fundamental elements of ballroom dancing.

In our experience, learning ballroom dancing enriches other styles of dance and build new skills for children.

When can my child start?

Anytime! Our classes are arranged to accept new students year round, making it easy and convenient to start your group lessons to get you dancing.

To start, contact us by phone or email at info@crystalballroom.ca, or drop into the studio, and let us know you want to inquire into our kids and youth program.

What should my child wear to their lesson?

For your first few lessons, please feel free to wear comfortable clothing your child can move in. Shoes should be suitable for indoor use meaning they are clean with unmarking soles. Please observe the studio etiquette in the About Us page which gives suggestion on attire suitable for ballroom dancing.

After your child’s first few lessons, we recommend acquiring specialty ballroom and/or latin shoes. Dance shoes help support the developing body and make it easier and safer to move across the floor. Your instructor will be able to offer guidance on where to acquire dance shoes and what to look for for your child’s dance gear. Should you want further recommendations, do not hesitate to ask us in person or email us at info@crystalballroom.ca.
